What makes this sector difficult.
Manufacturing hiring is constrained by geography in a way that technology hiring is not. Plants are located where they are located, and the candidate pool is defined by who will genuinely relocate to a specific industrial location — which is a much smaller number than the number who will express interest.
The second constraint is standards. Sector-specific quality systems, regulatory requirements and process disciplines mean experience is often non-transferable between apparently similar industries.
